In our overachieving culture, applying to college grows more demanding every year. Caught in this culture, young people can easily lose sight of themselves by choosing coursework, activities, and summer experiences that, supposedly, will “get them into college.”
I guide my students to prepare for going to college by being who they already are. With this approach, my students stand out. They find it easier to choose colleges and explore majors. Most importantly, by learning to be themselves, they begin to pursue their careers and lives in a meaningful manner.
