2016 is the year of awakening and right now there is talk of reforming college admissions requirements (see Frank Bruni and summary of Harvard Report). To make the admissions process less stressful, several items are on the table for discussion. Maybe more colleges will make ACT and SAT exams optional. Maybe they’ll reduce expectations around the AP course load. Maybe they’ll add essay topics to help students say more about the casual things they do in life. While I think this may help a bit, I don’t think it solves the real problem. The real problem – what nobody is saying – is that students need to feel that their lives are WAY MORE FUN and WAY MORE MEANINGFUL.
